Memory foam mattresses are the new sensation in the world of mattresses, praise be to God. There is no doubt about the benefits that can be gained from sleeping on a sticky rubber mattress. The first to manufacture a memory foam mattress was Tempur-Pedic and the company remains the market leader in this type of mattress. But do other brands, such as the Sealy Trueform mattress, match the Tempur-Pedic mattress in terms of support, comfort, and price?
With most comparisons you should try to compare like with like. For some of the next comparisons, I’ll pit the Tempur-Pedic CelebrityBed mattress over the Sealy TrueForm 11 Series mattress. Both of these mattresses are at the high end in terms of quality and pricing for both companies. For the lower end of the price category, one should compare the Tempur-Pedic Classic mattress to the Sealy TrueForm 8 Series mattress, but I wouldn’t compare these models.
First, let’s be clear on one point. Tempur-Pedic and Sealy each have a different patented memory foam; Memory foam is not supplied by a common source. Instead, Tempur-Pedic and Sealy have researched, developed, and manufactured their own distinct versions. Now let’s take a look at both products.
Tempur-Pedic mattress
CelebrityBed is the high-end Tempur-Pedic mattress. It’s built with the Tempur-Pedic AirFlow System (complex HR base), which consists of 2 4.3″ support layers of a proprietary TEMPUR material. The convoluted base helps dissipate body heat, something that’s always been an issue with memory foam mattresses. On top of the AirFlow System comes a 2.8″ base layer (density 5.3 lb/ft3). Finally, you get a comfortable 2″ thick (density 5.3 lb/ft3) memory foam layer. 3).The mattress itself is contained in a removable cover;67.5% Cotton, 25% Polyester, 7.5% Cashmere, which can be easily unzipped for washing.
Sealy TrueForum mattress
The Sealy Multi-Layer Memory Foam Mattress is composed of two layers of foam. Set 9 by Sealy consists of 6 inches poly (made of high density foam), 3.5 inches of regular visco (memory foam) and 1.5 inches of visco loop. The later Sealy TrueForm wraparound layer, like the one in the Tempur-Pedic mattress) is designed to eliminate body heat. Interestingly, Sealy’s twisted topping makes up the topping, while Sealy’s twisted base layer is the topping. ly TrueForm Series 9 also comes with a compact velvet cover with cashmere added.
So how does each rank compare? The Tempur-Pedic mattress is slightly heavier than the Sealy mattress. However, since neither mattress requires any inversion, weight is not an issue. You get a box spring for each mattress – personally, that’s a complete waste of money). However, the Sealy TrueForm mattress is compatible with Sealy’s PowerBase, so you can adjust the mattress to different positions, program in your preferred modes and even get a massage—I’d rather get a massage administered by a human hand than a machine, but I suppose the Powerbase is great for watching TV.
Both mattresses come with a 20-year limited warranty.
But the most important question is which mattress provides the best support and comfort. I tested both mattresses and can honestly say that I cannot rate the Tempur-Pedic mattress above the Sealy, or vice versa. I’ve heard some comments that the memory foam used in the Silly True-Form mattress is a bit softer than that used in the Tempur-Pedic Celebrity Bed – I didn’t notice but maybe I’m not as sensitive as some.
In conclusion, I’d rate Silly TrueForm above Tempur-Pedic, based solely on price. A Sealy mattress is much cheaper than a Tempur-with-your-own mattress, so why pay more? Sometimes I wonder if the Tempur-Pedic mattress price is so high because the company advertises so much or maybe it thinks people will pay more because it’s the market leader.
